Why are pageviews less than concurrents on my top articles?

You may observe that the number of pageviews is less than the number of concurrents for articles appearing in your Real-Time Dashboard. This is caused by a nuanced difference in the way we track the two metrics:

  • Pageviews reflect completed sessions. These include visitors who have closed their browser window, navigated away from your site, or have been idle on your page for more than 2 hours.
  • Concurrents reflect active sessions which are not yet complete. While a visitor still has a view open to a page on your website or app, the pageview for this session has not yet been recorded.

There is some expected lag during the conversion from a completed session to a pageview, so you may not see the data update instantly.
